How to spend Like a Millionaire

Millionaires make up just 2 percent of the population. They get a bad rap during recessions for being wasteful with their money and are frequently used as examples of excess. It's the millionaires that you don't see that you can learn from in times like these. I call them the frugal millionaires and interviewed 70 of them to uncover ways we can all be smarter with money.
Nearly 70 percent of the economy is based on consumer spending. To keep the economy going we need to keep spending but not waste money in the process. This is where the frugal millionaires come in. They've been smart with their money all along and haven't lost it all and had to remake it. These are the kind of people you want to learn from when it comes to spending your money.
Spending philosophy:
Frugal millionaires are unique thinkers when it comes to spending money: 1) they can easily delay their need for gratification when purchasing; 2) they are resourceful in getting what they want by carefully timing their consumer purchases; 3) they make living below their means painless; 4) they don't like wasting anything (especially money); 5) their sense of "self-entitlement" is highly minimized: and 6) spending is OK with them...depending on what they are buying (think: appreciating vs. depreciating assets).

Buying tips.
These millionaires keep more money than they spend, that's why they are rich. Their tactics work for them so they'll work even better for you. Key Point: They don't view shopping as a sport. They shop efficiently and spend their time doing more important things with their lives. Here are their tips that will help you save while spending: Cars: Buy used (or off lease) fuel-efficient cars, often with "certified pre-owned" warranties. This warranty can be better than a new car, plus the initial depreciation hit is avoided. Drive the car for a long time and never lease it.
Eating Out: Bring half of a meal home to eat later (this also saves the waistline). Eat at happy hours. Bring wine from home and skip dessert. Value food quality over expensive ambience.
Eating In: Eat better and less expensively by cooking at home. Make it a friends and family event. Get your kids involved. Bonus: You can have that extra drink without worrying about getting busted for driving under the influence. Also: buy day-old bread at the best bakery in town and freeze it. Eat oatmeal, because it's the most cost-effective breakfast food. Get a supermarket "club card" and buy food on special. Play the game of trying to see how much of a discount can be saved off the total food bill.
Clothes: When you buy something new donate something used to charity. Buy traditional clothes, but wait for the off-season to acquire them. Go for high quality - not high price. Buy vintage clothing and avoid logo clothing and keep people guessing who the designer might be. Hint: There shouldn't be one!

Consumer Electronics: Buy low-end gear that has the basic functionality of the more expensive stuff. Don't be the first to buy new technology. Wait at least one lifecycle so the bugs are worked out. Buy refurbished electronics whenever possible.Computers: Buy more mainstream computers with proven technology. Select higher capacity hard drives, a decent amount of RAM (the memory that the program runs in) and a cost effective processor. Super fast doesn't always equal super good...unless you are building airplanes or bridges. Laptops are a good compromise between desktops and netbooks. Don't go through the pain of upgrading operating systems on existing computers, it's not time efficient and you will probably go insane trying.
Going green: Being green and frugal go hand-in-hand. Yet frugal millionaires don't readily fall for the trendy green hype machine. They typically buy green if it helps the environment and lowers their costs. They look at the timeframe when a product can pay for itself. They do use compact fluorescent lighting, turn off lights and equipment that isn't being used, monitor AC and heat usage (with programmable thermostats), drive efficiently, live in "right-sized" homes and turn off the water when they aren't brushing their teeth or washing dishes. Because they have trained themselves to not waste money they won't waste anything else either. They get into good habits and keep them going. You can, too.

Why You Will Love Doing Short Sales
Negotiating Short Sales is a great way to supplement your income, or even replace your full-time job with a more lucrative and less time-consuming alternative. But the unlimited potential income is just one of many reasons that you're going to love doing short sales. Here are some other reasons that you may not yet have considered:
1. The "Win-Win-Win" Situation.
When you work with a lender to find an acceptable compromise on a price for a distressed property, you not only are obtaining a great investment property for yourself, you're also helping a distressed homeowner move on with their life without the burden of a foreclosure on their credit and their mind and helping a lender recoup money that they otherwise might have had to wait months or even years to recover - if they ever recovered it at all! Of course, the investment property for you is the driving motivation here, but the other aspects aren't so bad either. On using the Law of Attraction to Make Money

So you have this idea that you can make money in an online business of you own, right? And you may have even tried to make money on the internet but it isn't working for you?
In this article I am going to explain why most people don't make money in their home based business endeavors, discuss how the law of attraction can ensure your success in the future, and finally, give you an overview of a marketing system that works for me and it will work for you if you use it.
First off, the reason most people fail to make money is they are looking for a product or program that allows them to place a few free classified ads with a link to a sales page, walk away and be rich overnight. The chances of that happening are the same as going to a driving range, hitting a bucket of balls, practicing putting for a half hour and then walking out on the PGA tour and winning. It ain't gonna happen.
When they don't get rich overnight in the first program, they go looking for another program and the whole cycle starts all over again. I know that is how it happens because I have done the same thing myself.....more times than I care to remember.
To excel at anything we need to focus on one thing and keep working on that skill set until we become very good at it. Pick one product to sell or one opportunity and work on that business until you become very good at it. Stop switching from one thing to another every week. There are a lot of ways to make money online but there is no such thing as a program "that works" by itself. We have to make it work. And that takes concentrated effort over a lengthy period of time.
So what is this Law of Attraction and how can it help us in our business building pursuits? I look at the Law of Attraction as the science of attracting to us the things we concentrate on. The law of attraction is not something you can turn on or off at will. The principals of attraction are working for us 24 hours a day, even if we are not aware of it. If you think primarily negative thoughts and say sarcastic things, positive people will be repelled away from you and other negative, sarcastic people will be drawn toward you. If you think primarily positive thoughts and you radiate a happy, positive persona, other happy, positive people will be drawn to you and negative people will be pushed away. You don't have to force that, it just happens.
Some people say that you can attract money just by focusing on attracting money, but I would add that you also need to take action to attract what you want to attract by doing the kinds of things and putting yourself in situations that will attract money to you.
So how can we use this Law of Attraction to help us make money online? First, do not aggressively advertise your product or business offer to everyone you run into. That will certainly repel most people away from you.
What do you think most people are looking for? To learn how to make money in a business of their own, from home, in their PJ's, with no boss, etc. We think of that as having enough income to be free to do as we like, right. Yes, that sounds good and I bet a lot of people are interested in learning how to do that. And I submit that you can have that financial freedom, but first you need to learn the skills required to earn that freedom and second, you need to use those skills for a long enough time to get the income flowing and keep the income flowing. Being financially free doesn't necessarily mean you have no boss. It really means that you are your boss and you have to force yourself to go to work each day (at your kitchen table) and do the work required to keep the money flowing. If you don't have that level of commitment you will not be successful in a business of your own.
I know that 98% of the people who began reading this article have already moved on to other, more interesting things. That is fine and as it should be. I am only looking to attract those 2% of the people who are willing to make a commitment (to themselves) and will do the work required, day after day, until they get the income flowing and then keep doing those things (forever) to keep the income flowing. How do I go about attracting those 2% of the people who are committed? I offer everyone a completely free marketing system that does work (if they do) and I never, ever try to sell anything to anyone. Think about it, if you uncle or your cousin or anyone tried to sell you anything, every time you saw them would you be attracted to them or away from them? People are trying to sell us something, every day, all the time. We get so many advertisements thrown at us each day it is incredible. I really don't want anyone else to try to sell me their product or get me to join their program. But, when I was starting out, if I had run into someone who could actually teach me what to do to make money online, with no strings attached, I would have been attracted to them immediately. And, I probably would have asked to buy their product or join their program because they knew what they were doing and they could teach me how to do it too!
That is the essence of attraction marketing. Become the teacher and those people who are committed and interested will be drawn to you.
What are the things we need to do every day to get a business started and keep it growing? Fortunately, online marketing principals are quite well known. Learning to make videos is a challenge at first, but as with anything else, with a little practice it gets much easier. Every video should have a link to your website where the viewer can get more information.
Article marketing is kind of an old fashioned idea now but I assure you that Article Marketing still works quite well. No, you can't just write one article (or one video, post it on the Internet, and get rich quickly. I try to write one new article every day. Of course some days I can't but I try to. On my website I teach an easy method for coming up with good article ideas and how to also come up with excellent content for your articles. You can use the same method for coming up with ideas for good videos. Again, every article should have a link to your website.
I also recommend that you post answers to questions in online forums with a link to your website for more information. Not just advertisements for your product or opportunity, but real answers to real questions that will compel the reader to visit your web page to get more information. They want to learn, and you are the teacher and they will be Attracted to you to learn more.
And you should be using Social Networking sites (Myspace.com, Facebook.com and Twitter.com) as well as Social Bookmarking sites (Digg.com, Propeller.com, StumbleUpon.com) to post links to your webpage for people who want to learn how to do Internet marketing.
It will take you some time and effort to learn these techniques well enough to teach them to others. But, none of this is rocket science and every technique can be learned fairly easily. practicing each technique will help you perfect each technique and soon you will be an expert.
If you do these kinds of things, each and every day for a long enough period of time, you cannot help but earn a growing income with any product or any business opportunity you choose to offer.

So you have this idea that you can make money in an online business of you own, right? And you may have even tried to make money on the internet but it isn't working for you?
In this article I am going to explain why most people don't make money in their home based business endeavors, discuss how the law of attraction can ensure your success in the future, and finally, give you an overview of a marketing system that works for me and it will work for you if you use it.
First off, the reason most people fail to make money is they are looking for a product or program that allows them to place a few free classified ads with a link to a sales page, walk away and be rich overnight. The chances of that happening are the same as going to a driving range, hitting a bucket of balls, practicing putting for a half hour and then walking out on the PGA tour and winning. It ain't gonna happen.
When they don't get rich overnight in the first program, they go looking for another program and the whole cycle starts all over again. I know that is how it happens because I have done the same thing myself.....more times than I care to remember.
To excel at anything we need to focus on one thing and keep working on that skill set until we become very good at it. Pick one product to sell or one opportunity and work on that business until you become very good at it. Stop switching from one thing to another every week. There are a lot of ways to make money online but there is no such thing as a program "that works" by itself. We have to make it work. And that takes concentrated effort over a lengthy period of time.
So what is this Law of Attraction and how can it help us in our business building pursuits? I look at the Law of Attraction as the science of attracting to us the things we concentrate on. The law of attraction is not something you can turn on or off at will. The principals of attraction are working for us 24 hours a day, even if we are not aware of it. If you think primarily negative thoughts and say sarcastic things, positive people will be repelled away from you and other negative, sarcastic people will be drawn toward you. If you think primarily positive thoughts and you radiate a happy, positive persona, other happy, positive people will be drawn to you and negative people will be pushed away. You don't have to force that, it just happens.
Some people say that you can attract money just by focusing on attracting money, but I would add that you also need to take action to attract what you want to attract by doing the kinds of things and putting yourself in situations that will attract money to you.
So how can we use this Law of Attraction to help us make money online? First, do not aggressively advertise your product or business offer to everyone you run into. That will certainly repel most people away from you.
What do you think most people are looking for? To learn how to make money in a business of their own, from home, in their PJ's, with no boss, etc. We think of that as having enough income to be free to do as we like, right. Yes, that sounds good and I bet a lot of people are interested in learning how to do that. And I submit that you can have that financial freedom, but first you need to learn the skills required to earn that freedom and second, you need to use those skills for a long enough time to get the income flowing and keep the income flowing. Being financially free doesn't necessarily mean you have no boss. It really means that you are your boss and you have to force yourself to go to work each day (at your kitchen table) and do the work required to keep the money flowing. If you don't have that level of commitment you will not be successful in a business of your own.
I know that 98% of the people who began reading this article have already moved on to other, more interesting things. That is fine and as it should be. I am only looking to attract those 2% of the people who are willing to make a commitment (to themselves) and will do the work required, day after day, until they get the income flowing and then keep doing those things (forever) to keep the income flowing. How do I go about attracting those 2% of the people who are committed? I offer everyone a completely free marketing system that does work (if they do) and I never, ever try to sell anything to anyone. Think about it, if you uncle or your cousin or anyone tried to sell you anything, every time you saw them would you be attracted to them or away from them? People are trying to sell us something, every day, all the time. We get so many advertisements thrown at us each day it is incredible. I really don't want anyone else to try to sell me their product or get me to join their program. But, when I was starting out, if I had run into someone who could actually teach me what to do to make money online, with no strings attached, I would have been attracted to them immediately. And, I probably would have asked to buy their product or join their program because they knew what they were doing and they could teach me how to do it too!
That is the essence of attraction marketing. Become the teacher and those people who are committed and interested will be drawn to you.

I am always surprised that work at home websites can make good money by demanding job seekers pay up front money for no fee work at home job leads. We live in a free economy so, I understand why some sites do it. The fact of the matter is that a lot of effort is needed to go through thousands of job boards and web sites to find no fee work from home jobs.
You probably already know this but the big job sites such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder are not specialized in no fee work from home jobs. The at home jobs listed there are usually mixed in with regular jobs and the thousands of home based business opportunities which tend to require a fee.

How about a little of both?
One of the great fallacies in the self-help industry is the notion that you can change your life with "positive thinking." The purveyors of positivism, starting with Napoleon Hill and including the people who now promote The Secret, contend that we all have, at our conscious disposal, the means to transform ourselves into walking, breathing success machines.
Some self-help gurus sell positive thinking because they know it is one of the most lucrative products to put in the marketplace. Change one thought and you can change your life! What better promise can you make to an underachieving, wanna-be-rich-and-successful couch potato? And purely from a profit point of view, they are right. Positive thinking products making quick-and-easy promises account for more than a billion dollars a year in direct-mail and Internet sales. And that's just for the companies I personally know. The total number is probably multiples of that.
I am not saying all proponents of positive thinking are hucksters. Many are honest men and women who believe in the concept because they use it successfully in their own lives. They are usually people who have always been accomplished, excelling in sports or academics or business almost from the start. Their repeated successes gave them confidence that they can do just about anything. And they readily tap into that underlying feeling of confidence whenever they face a new challenge. In their hearts, they know they can succeed. So when they take on anything new, they can't help but believe they will be successful.
But what about the rest of the world? The 80 percent of the population that got C's in school and sat on the bench during ball games and had little or no success in business? What messages are buried in their hearts? Well, the positive thinkers will tell you that is exactly the point. The people who struggle on without success are failing because they don't really think they can succeed. If only they could change their thinking, they would do better.
And so the therapy for these self-doubters is positive thinking. Stand in front of the mirror in the morning and repeat 20 times: "I am a good person. I can do anything. I will be successful."
It's very appealing. Two or three minutes of talking to your mirrored image, and a mental switch will be turned. Everything after that will come to you effortlessly.
The reality is different. Does Positive Thinking Work?A study mentioned by Julie Norem in her book The Positive Power of Negative Thinking confirms my belief that though positive thinking may work for people who already have an optimistic way of looking at their abilities, it doesn't work for people who are pessimists.
Researchers divided their subjects (all identified as pessimists) into two groups. They told one group that, based on their past performance, they were going to do well on a standardized test they were about to be given. And these subjects indicated on a pre-test survey that they did, indeed, feel optimistic about their results. The second group was not given any encouragement. The results? The first group, the temporarily optimistic pessimists, actually performed worse on the test. I've been critical of the idea of positive thinking for years, because I think it is useless to the people who most need help in changing their lives: people who have deeply held negative feelings about what they can accomplish. Positive thinking works only for those who are emotionally positive. Usually, these are people who have a history of being successful. People who have been good wrestlers, for example, find it easy to believe they will win their next wrestling match. Entrepreneurs like yours truly find it easy to believe their next business venture will be successful.
When you are emotionally positive, you can't help but think positively about everything.
So thinking positively helps. But it only helps the 20 percent of the population that is already emotionally positive. The rest of the population, the 80 percent of the world that is emotionally negative, cannot be helped by positive thinking. I knew this was true, though I didn't know exactly why. When I wrote about it in the past, many ETR readers objected. When I spoke about it at conferences, attendees complained to me afterward. They seemed angry. As if I was trying to take something precious away from them. They believed I was trying to deny their best chance of succeeding. Meanwhile, what I was really trying to do was get them to stop conning themselves and take the specific actions that would help them achieve their goals.
As the years passed, I would meet some of these same people at other conferences. They were still attending self-improvement seminars, still carrying positive-thinking books, and still upset with me for telling them that positive thinking wouldn't change their fortunes. It had, after all, worked for the people promoting all those seminars and books. Year after year. Decade after decade. They stayed poor. They stayed stuck. But they wouldn't give up their dream of changing their lives quickly and easily by changing their thinking.
I was never able to articulate why it was that I knew positive thinking would never work for these people. But then I read a book that helped me understand: A General Theory of Love. It was written by three eminent psychotherapists and neuroscientists. I have posted my notes on this book on my website (which I recommend you read), but let me tell you very briefly what it taught me that sheds light on this issue.
Essentially, our emotions are deeply rooted in the way our minds are wired. There is a scientific basis for many of our emotional responses and how we relate to others. At the same time, our interactions with the world and people around us have a profound impact on our attitude. This interaction, which can actually alter neural pathways in the brain, begins in infancy and influences our development.
So if you grew up with negative feelings about your ability to achieve success, that's the way your brain is wired. And no amount of positive thinking will change it.
Here is what the authors of A General Theory of Love have to say about the self-help industry:
"A vigorous self-help movement has championed the hoax that a strong-willed person, outfitted with the proper directions, can select good relationships. Those seduced into the promise of a quick fix gobble it up. But the physiology of emotional life cannot be dispelled with a few words...
"... Self-help books are like car repair manuals: You can read them all day, but doing so doesn't fix a thing."
To change yourself from being emotionally negative to emotionally positive, you have to get some solid successes under your belt. And that's where another success technique - visualization - comes in. But this one works. Visualization is a proven and useful technique for achieving peak performance.
It's no secret that many of the most successful people in the world - including entertainers, athletes, and CEOs - used visualization to help them achieve their goals.
Take Tiger Woods...

Matt's wrestling coach told the scrawny, uncoordinated high school teen he never had a chance. But by using the power of visualization, Matt gained the confidence to win match after match - and became a champion wrestler in high school and college.
Later, Matt became World Kung Fu Champion - thanks, again, to visualization and the very positive attitude that was now buried deep in his limbic brain (the part of the brain involved in emotional behavior).
As I said, people who are emotionally positive about their chances for success have a history of succeeding. They're doers, not dreamers. So forget about positive thinking. Instead, start rewiring your brain by working toward the goal you want to achieve or practicing the skill you want to master.
At first, you won't feel very good about what you're doing, because you won't be very good at it. But stick with it. Remember that it takes about thousand hours to achieve competency in anything that's worthwhile.
Start by setting very modest objectives. Use visualization to help you excel at specific tasks and overcome specific challenges. But don't waste your time repeating useless mantras. Actions - only actions - will reprogram your limbic brain and turn you into a real "success machine."
